Excelsior’s Academy of Beauty

The Academy of Beauty is a State Board–accredited cosmetology program where high school students can earn a license-ready education at no cost.

Students gain hands-on training in hairstyling, makeup, nails, and esthetics using professional kits from industry leaders like Pivot Point, Redken, and Sam Villa. With client service days, field trips, and mentorship, they graduate with salon experience, professional portfolios, and the confidence to succeed in the beauty industry.

A National Award Winning Robotics Course, students will transfer academic skills to component designs in a project-based environment through implementation of the design process. Students will build prototypes or use simulation software to test their designs. Additionally, students will explore career opportunities, employer expectations, and educational needs in the robotic and automation industry. 

In this intro to Video Game Design course, students learn gaming, computerized gaming, evolution of gaming, artistic aspects of perspective, design, animation, technical concepts of collision theory, and programming logic. Students will participate in a simulation of a real video game design team while developing technical proficiency in constructing an original game design.

Led by dedicated staff, you'll learn the art of event planning, effective communication, and fostering inclusivity. From organizing spirited rallies to spearheading community service initiatives, you'll shape the school experience for your peers while honing skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

Speech and Debate is a year-long elective that will give students an introduction to a variety of public speaking and formal debate styles, with a focus on Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas formats. Throughout the course, students will become familiar with these styles through instruction, research, observation, and lots and lots of practice.

But that's not all – we'll also dive into fun activities that make learning about computers engaging and enjoyable. Whether you're a beginner or looking to enhance your skills, this class is the perfect place to explore, learn, and have a great time!   

College tours are arranged throughout the year to enable SBI students to have in-person experiences with colleges and universities. During these tours, students explore the campus, classrooms, facilities, and other relevant areas. The purpose of a school tour is to provide firsthand experiences and insights into the institution’s environment, culture, academic programs, extracurricular activities, and overall atmosphere. It allows participants to interact with current students, faculty, and staff, ask questions, and assess whether the school aligns with their educational goals and preferences. School tours are valuable for making informed decisions about enrollment and understanding what each institution has to offer.  

Excelsior’s Fashion Design Program

The Fashion Design Program offers high school students a unique opportunity to explore their creativity while gaining hands-on skills in clothing construction, design, and style development—all at no cost.

Students learn the fundamentals of sketching, pattern-making, sewing, and garment production using professional tools and materials. With opportunities to showcase their work through fashion shows, projects, and portfolios, students graduate with real-world experience, technical skills, and the confidence to pursue careers or further education in fashion design, merchandising, or related fields.
